About Us
Our name comes from our home away from home, Lake Gaston. We are a small hobby golden retriever breeding program based in Chesapeake, Virginia. Our mission and passion are to produce healthy, happy, well-adjusted puppies. Our puppies are whelped and raised in our home with love and introduced to several people, stimulation, and interactions during their time with us.
We have always loved dogs and have had several breeds – but golden retrievers hold a special place in our hearts. Their gentle nature and love of everything and everyone makes them the perfect addition to any family.
Before the internet, most people would search for their next pet from the newspaper, and that is how we found our first golden named Daisy. To say we loved her dearly does not give the love and bond we shared justice. We still miss her every day.
When it was time to add to our family, we knew another golden was a necessity. Shortly after we started our research, we were fortunate enough to encounter Nancy Cronce of Carova Goldens. She suggested we attend a dog show to meet some of her dogs and ask exhibitors questions about owning and showing dogs. After my first experience, I was hooked. At that first show, I met Sharon and David Kitchens, owner of Oberon, who sealed the deal on what became our preferred look.
We love spending time with our dogs, and we believe it’s vital that dogs “do” something. We have enjoyed many activities with our 4-legged family members; conformation, dock diving, obedience, tricks, rally – to name a few. Goldens are intelligent, eager to please, and are capable of many things. We are so very blessed to be “owned” by them.
One of the greatest blessings of spending time with our dogs is all of the new friends we have met. They are there to help and encourage you each step of the way.
Although we are new to breeding goldens, we live on a farm, so we have whelped many animals. I also helped whelp a few litters with Carova goldens and Dunkeld goldens before deciding to start my journey into breeding. I understand the love, time, expense, and heartbreak that breeding involves, so making this decision was not taken lightly. My mentors, Nancy Cronce and Sharon Kitchens have been my life support system, always willing to answer my questions. We are forever grateful for their guidance.
Breeding standards
Our litters are carefully planned. Our breeding goals are to strive for healthy, well-adjusted family companions who will do whatever you ask.
We research pedigrees and genetics to enhance the health of our breed. We follow the GRCA code of breeding ethics and exceed their requirements regarding health clearances.
Our puppies are raised in our home, where we introduce them to numerous sights, sounds, textures, and environments. They spend time with of my family members – my husband, my daughters and my 19 grandchildren (Yes, that’s 19). We also use neurological and physical stimulation to help foster strong mental and physical growth.
